When it comes to MRI exams, even the most patient and calm person has a difficult time relaxing in a 53-inch tunnel for up to an hour. If that person is claustrophobic or large, the exam is nearly impossible.

Open MRI scanning is now available at Diagnostic Imaging Centers' Northland, Overland Park, Plaza and Independence locations. Patients can complete an MRI exam without the apprehension of going into the "tunnel." The state-of-the-art Open MRI system boasts high quality and high speed. For the patient, the unit is clearly more comfortable as it is open on all four sides. Unlike the closed MRI, the Open is quiet and smooth. Patients have a clear view of the room and an atmosphere where they can easily communicate with the technologist. It is even possible for loved ones to be present during the exam. Unlike the closed bore MRI, the technologist has greater access to the patient and can maintain constant visual contact.

Report turnaround time for the Open MRI is fast and efficient. The patient's report will forwarded to the ordering physician, or any additional physician requesting.
